ANTHONY RUSH
Anthony Rush is a
Dallasite; he was born in the heart of West Dallas. Anthony had to fight
most of his young life. His mother was an inspiration and encouraged him
with his singing. He can remember singing along with his mother at the
tender age of six not knowing that he was being groomed for a more
powerful purpose. After the death of his mother at the age of twelve,
Anthony used his singing as a catapult to seriously pursue his god given
talent. Anthony knew that although his mother was gone, he was not alone.
His faith motivated him to start singing praises to God.
He helped his brother,
Pastor Rickie Rush pursue his dream and opened the doors of the Inspiring
Body of Christ church to only 9 members. In 1990, Anthony started the
Praise and Worship Service to help boost the success of the new church.
Today the church has grown to over fourteen thousand members and is best
known as IBOC.
Anthony is an
Evangelist of song and he is presently the Minister of Music at the
Conquerors Christian Church in Dallas, Texas. He released his third CD,
"Too Blessed" that had blessed so many lives. His first CD entitled "God's
Promise" is a soul stirring hit and his second CD, entitled "ADORE" speaks
of real life experiences. The soulful sound of Mr. Rush comes from his
heart and you can hear it in each and everyone of his songs. Anthony wants
to bless the world with his Ministry in his music. He has a one of a kind
soulful sound and is waiting for the right doors to be opened for him to
walk in.

In the early 70's, at a
very young age, I became interested in music. Both my parents were
musicians, my dad, Rev. B G Brackens playing the guitar and my mother,
Pastor Luberta Brackens, playing the piano. One day, I'd sat down on the
piano stool and begin to 'play around' with the keys..it didn't sound good
at all, but i kept 'hearing' a sound in my ear that i was determine to
duplicate on the piano, until it sound right. I sat for hours and hours,
with not having taken a break. I can remember my dad in the next room
watching the news and ultimately, letting the TV watch him as he slept.
Later, I would teach myself to recognize the notes of each key. Then
later learning the scales and chords, in every key. You see, I never
receive formal training from an instructor, I just simply relied on the
training from God who'd gifted me. I ultimately became the primary
musician at my church as a teenager, to allow my mother the opportunity to
focus more on other duties of the church, as being a Pastor's wife. Then
in the early 80's, I heard a man playing the saxophone, and he played with
such anointing, that it inspire me to want to learn how to play. This man
was Dr. Vernard Johnson.
I did receive formal training at school in learning to play the
Saxophone. I eventually excel during my high school years. I won many
talent shows, competition and recitals, receiving various medals,
certificates, trophies, and scholarships. I participated in the Marching
Band and Jazz band at South Oak Cliff High School. I'd earn much respect
from my peers, staff members, teachers and even the toughest principal in
the land, Dr. F. Todd! I can remember a time when I, along with the group
I'd form, was invited to play at another school during school hours. I
spoke to my Band teacher about it, and he said it was ok by him, but that
it had to go through Dr. Todd...and he was too afraid to ask for approval
on my behalf. So, I went to the office, approached Dr. Todd and ask for
permission to go. Don't get me wrong, I was alittle nervous in
approaching him, after all, he was a big man who was tough. He gave me
the approval along with rules to keep in mind. Needless to say, when I
return to my Band teacher and inform him that I not only talked to Dr.
Todd but also got the approval I needed. He was so in shock at the level
of boldness I'd displayed, and from that point on, he would continue to
share with others what I'd done.
Upon preparing to graduate from High School, I receive 5 different
scholarship offers, Grambling State University and Prairie View being
among them. I accepted a full scholarship to attended Dallas Baptist
University. While attending DBU, I was exposed to a whole new world,
being that I stayed on campus at a predominately anglo university. I was
in high demand to perform solos at various Southern Baptist churches,
Methodist churches, and COGIC, both small and large. I played in front of
all kind of audiences, it didn't matter. I was writing songs, singing (oh
yeah, I can do this too!), and playing instruments. I'd perform Weddings,
Musicals, Anniversaries, Banquets, you name it. I realize people are
amazed to see and hear a female playing just as good as a male musician,
which makes me kind of unique.
At age 40 now, a single mother of three teenage girls, with a fulltime
job, I have slow down considerably by choice, to devote my time and
attention to my family and my home church, Sweet Fellowship Church. The
choir is made up, primarily, of my nieces and nephews, whom the Lord has
gifted as well. The musical legend which was set forth by my
grandparents, continues to travel throughout my family members. I have
taught my nieces (one of which sung at the Gospel Expo 2007, Crystal
Brackens, singing my version of Smokie Norful 'I Need You Now'), that
having the anointing is very important in ministry. I've taught them that
having a good singing voice is all good, but it's not enough....you MUST
be anointed by God in order to reach people. There was a time when I use
to lead all the choir songs, even though I had good singers in the choir,
but I didn't let them lead because they had no anointing! I was very
demanding and strict, because like my father, I was, and still is, very
serious about taking care of God's business. I don't believe in putting
anyone up to sing, if they're spirit or motive isn't right. It's
something I frown upon greatly. When God began to elevate me in my music
as a teenager, my parents always taught me to remain humble, giving
God all the credit and not myself. This is the same message I continue to
teach even now.
Lastly, God has been too good and is deserving of our best praise, at all
time, EVEN AT THE MALL!!!
